Cardinal
Hayes Home for Children is certified by the New York State
Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities
and receives funding through that office. With an annual
budget of $18M, CHHC relies upon Medicaid funding as
the primary source of support for its programs for disabled
children and young adults.
In order to
provide the quality care long associated with Cardinal Hayes
Home, the agency must seek other sources of revenue. Through
grants, bequests and direct mail appeals approximately
$250,000 is raised annually, greatly enriching the lives of
the residents of the Home. The kindness and generosity of
its benefactors makes it possible for CHHC to give the young
people in care every opportunity to reach their maximum
potential. Agency administration, looking to future needs,
periodically conducts special appeals for new facilities or
for expanding and refurbishing existing space.

Cardinal
Hayes School for Special Children is chartered by the New
York State Education Department and receives tuition
payments through the local school district. The tuition rate
is established by the State but has never fully covered the
cost of operating the school. CHS is the only school in the
area that addresses the educational needs of children who
are medically frail, physically disabled and mentally
retarded.
Cardinal
Hayes School is occasionally the recipient of grants,
donations or bequests that help the school meet its
expenses. As needs for additions to the school have
arisen, specific capital campaigns have contributed
significant funds toward building projects. As a result of
increased enrollment in the past few years, there is an
urgent need for three additional classrooms and a therapy
room. A special campaign will begin in 2008 to raise funds
for this project.
